Our mission is to empower local individuals and community groups to transform the urban landscape from vacant or abandoned lots to beautiful green spaces for use by the community. AVillage Inc., the Capital District Permaculture Guild, we are architects and members of the University at Albany Urban Planning program have taken on lot projects and we have hosted volunteers including neighbors in the South End and from Siena College, the University at Albany and The College of St. Rose. In the 4 years we have been around we have been in support of a community garden space for children, a one-time art project and a permaculture learning garden.
VLP has also received a grant from Kaboom! and will be designing a playground to be built in the Spring of 2013.
We currently have 4 lots underway in the South End of Albany and participate in an annual South End Earth Day every April.
In addition to the groups above, we have worked closely with the City of Albany, the Albany Housing Authority and the South End Neighborhood Association.
